6 Hours In
Not counting film time, I’m 6 hours into painting this mushroom.
This picture was taken before I made any progress today,
so you are seeing my 3 hours of progress from yesterday.
I sketched this out and put down the first layers at grandma’s dining room table while we visited. By coincidence she made a really delicious pizza topped with mushroom slices.
I had planned to start a new painting while we spent some time together but had no plans of what that would be. As I looked through my photos there was one taken behind mom and dad’s house in the forest that stood out to me as the perfect reference/model.
If anyone could help me with identifying it that would be amazing.
Nimbus is almost always right next to me when I’m home, including being under my foot as I type. This morning was no different. Before I could even set up my work station he needed some lovin.
The colors are not meant to be exact matches to the colors of the actual mushroom in the reference photo. I’ve never considered any of my work to be realistic. Some of my art is semi-realistic or based on reality but it’s all interpreted through a sort of filter that alters the shapes and colors and dimensions.
This palette was made by my friend Kate (@claykate on Instagram).
Before wrapping up for the day my girlfriend dropped by and brought blueberry lavender ice cream from across the street- one of the best flavors there is. She is very sweet for bringing me sweets. Notably the color of the dessert matched my project which was super satisfying.
I wish to finish it this weekend but we shall see. Whenever I try to give myself a deadline it is usually ignored or extended. There is no rush.
